Workshop at UnionDocs This Weekend
🌊 ☀️Riding the Wave(forms): Process-Oriented Audio Creation 🌴 🐚
I'm leading a workshop at UnionDocs this weekend alongside Adriene Lilly. We have a few spots left, so I wanted to send some more info about it here. It's gonna be collaborative, creative and kind of intense, focused on listening and working with audio about the beach, waves, waveforms, water.... See details below! Scholarships are also available, so please write to me if you are interested but don’t think you could afford something like this.
June 3-5, spend the weekend crafting an audio ode to the beauty of the beach at UnionDocs!
To celebrate the onset of summer, UnionDocs, Adriene Lilly, and Olivia Bradley-Skill (WFMU) warmly invite you for RIDING THE WAVE(FORMS): PROCESS-ORIENTED AUDIO CREATION!
There will be demos and activities built on the idea that how you listen + the tools you use have an effect on what you make. I’m also really excited for Melissa Pons’ workshop on concepts on field recording. We're using Reaper and some of it's specific tools (free item positioning! take markers!), so this is not daw agnostic.
+ Fun for all skill levels!
+ Break out of a creative rut!
+ Learn new & old stuff in Reaper!
+ Get out of your head and do too many activities in too short a time!
+ Listen to (and mess with) waves & music & sound works!
+ Blindfolds! Drink umbrellas! Surround sound!
This process-oriented workshop will focus on the artistry and craft of creative audio storytelling, as inspired by and in conversation with a favorite summer locale - the beach. Through guided technical presentations, active listening sessions, class discussions, and an immersive group project, participants will experiment with new conceptual frameworks for audio storytelling; deepen their technical abilities and learn new editing techniques; and ultimately interrogate their relationship to listening and working with sound files.
